Summary
A freshwater marsh area on the northern outskirts of Bangkok, Chiangrak and Rangsit marshes consist of low rushes, some scrub and trees and small ponds, providing good habitat for both resident and migrant bitterns of the genus Ixobrychus, crakes (including Baillon,s Crake), Snipe and Pintail Snipe, and Pallas´s Grasshopper, Lanceolated, Black-browed Reed and Blunt-winged Warblers. Up to a few hundred Garganeys are found here along with a small variety of waders, including Long-toed Stints. Wat Pai Lom is home to a large colony of Asian Openbill. A common breeding season visitor (Nov-Apr), many of these birds migrate to Bangladesh during the wet season, although some remain.

0600 Pick up at your Bangkok hotel and depart for early morning birding around the cities patches of open country (Rice farm, marsh, pond) 1000 Depart for Wat Pai Lom, home to a colony of Asian Openbill’s. 1100 Lunch at a restaurant by the edge of Chao Praya river 1330 Transfer to Rangsit marsh for more birding. 1600 Return to your Bangkok hotel
